Edward Legere, MBA


Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Ed has worked for over 20 years in the biotechnology industry as a consultant and active business manager and has over ten years of public company experience as a member of Boards of Directors. He has served as the President and CEO of a publicly traded biotechnology company, Peregrine Pharmaceuticals, Inc. While at Peregrine, he founded Avid Bioservices, a wholly owned subsidiary of Peregrine Pharmaceuticals Inc. Avid Bioservices serves the biopharmaceutical industry as a GMP compliant contract manufacturer of proteins made from mammalian cells. Avid Bioservices provides manufacturing scale-up services to client companies from bench-top scale to commercial scale GMP manufacturing.

Mr. Legere received a BS in International Business from Florida Atlantic University and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Paul Roessler, Ph.D.


Chief Scientific Officer

Dr. Paul Roessler has over 30 years of research experience involving the physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology of plants and algae. Prior to joining Algenol, Paul was Vice President of Renewable Fuels and Chemicals at Synthetic Genomics, Inc., where he led a program to develop renewable fuels and chemicals from cyanobacteria and other types of algae. Prior to that, he worked at the Dow Chemical Company as a Senior R&D Leader in Core Biotechnology, where he oversaw internal and external plant biotechnology programs involving the modification of seed oils for industrial and nutritional products. Paul also worked at Monsanto as a Principal Scientist to develop microbial strains for the fermentative production of nutritional oils and in the Aquatic Species Program of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to develop technology for the production of algal biofuels, where he led the team that produced the first genetically engineered marine microalgae.

He received an M.S. degree in Plant Physiology from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Ronald Chance, Ph.D.


Executive Vice President, Engineering

Dr. Ron Chance began his career with Honeywell, where he served in a number of research positions including Research Manager for Electronic Materials. In 1986, he joined Exxon as the Director of the company’s Polymer Laboratory, later serving as Division Manager for the Paramins Technology division, and as Distinguished Scientific Advisor in ExxonMobil’s Corporate Strategic Research Laboratories. Dr. Chance retired from ExxonMobil in 2006 and joined the Georgia Institute of Technology as Professor of the Practice with a joint appointment in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry. He also served as Distinguished Scientific Advisor Emeritus at ExxonMobil from 2006-2009. Dr. Chance is currently Executive Vice President and Head of Engineering for Algenol Biotech. His primary current research interest centers around carbon capture and utilization via algae-based biorefineries. He has organized several international scientific meetings, served on numerous advisory boards, is a Fellow in the American Physical Society, and published more than 200 papers and patents.

Ron received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Quang Ha, J.D.


Interim Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel

From 2006 to 2010, Mr. Ha served as General Counsel or Chief Legal Officer for a variety of financial services and asset management businesses of FSI Capital, LLC. He helped to expand and reorganize these businesses, as well as navigate them through the financial crisis. Prior to FSI Capital, Mr. Ha served as Director and Counsel at Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC from 2002 to 2004, managing and providing legal coverage for certain complex and innovative financial products. Mr. Ha also has previous experience practicing international law at the firm of Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy LLP, focusing on corporate, finance and capital markets transactions.

Mr. Ha received an A.B. degree, cum laude, in Economics from Harvard University and a J.D. degree from The University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was an Executive Editor of The University of Pennsylvania Law Review.

Jacques Beaudry-Losique, MBA


Chief Business Officer

Jacques has more than 20 years experience working in the energy and technology sectors. Prior to Algenol, Jacques was the Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategy for Codexis, a publicly traded biofuels and biopharma company. From 2005 to 2011, he held senior policy and management positions at the Department of Energy. While at the DOE, Jacques led efforts to build a second generation biofuels industry across two administrations, managed three clean energy programs, and served for two years as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Renewable Energy. He was also instrumental in decisions to invest more than $1.5 billion of Recovery Act funds in renewable energy projects, including $800 million in biofuels projects – including all Integrated Biorefinery Projects. Jacques is currently chairman of the Algae Biomass Organization.

Jacques holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Montreal, a Master of Science in Engineering Management from Stanford University, and a Master of Science in Management from MIT.

John R. Coleman, Ph.D.


Senior Scientific Advisor

He is a Professor in the Department of Cell and Systems Biology at the University of Toronto where he has held a number of administrative positions including Vice-Principal of Research and Graduate Studies at the University of Toronto Scarborough, and Chair of the Department of Botany from 1998 to 2004, as well as playing a primary role in the formation and administration of the new Department of Cell and Systems Biology in 2006. During his academic career, John’s research interests have been in the fields of molecular biology and biochemistry of photosynthetic carbon metabolism in higher plants and photosynthetic microorganisms, with specific projects including studies on regulation of plant gene expression in response to elevated or sub-ambient CO2 concentrations; identification and characterization of CO2 responsive mutants of Arabidopsis; structure/function analysis of plant carbonic anhydrases; and genetic engineering of carbon metabolism in cyanobacteria for the production of biofuels.

Prior to joining the University of Toronto in 1984, Dr. Coleman received his Ph.D. in plant biochemistry from York University in Toronto, Canada, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Carnegie Institution, Department of Plant Biology, Stanford, CA.

Christian Mosler

Christian Mosler

Managing Director, Algenol Germany

His previous career experience included management and senior management positions in international and Germany companies, such as Beta Systems Software AG (Berlin), Veolia Environnement S.A. (Paris) and Groupon Inc. (Chicago). His responsibilities included international accounting, transaction structuring and restructuring, deal generation, due diligence and project management.

Graduating in business management at the Freie University of Berlin was the basis for Christians professional career.
